Description
Should you attend? This is a knowledge base educational program activity for Pharmacists.
Activity Description: From 1999 to 2017, more than 700,000 people have died from a drug overdose. Around 68% of the more than 70,200 drug overdose deaths in 2017 involved an opioid.
In 2017, the number of overdose deaths involving opioids (including prescription opioids and illegal opioids like heroin and illicitly manufactured fentanyl) was 6 times higher than in 1999.
On average, 130 Americans die every day from an opioid overdose. This program brings pharmacists up-to-date about opioid epedemic, treatment options and other clinical guidance.
Upon completion of the educational program, pharmacists will be able to:
- Examine the scope of the opioid epidemic and the regulatory aspect of opioid treatment programs
- Discuss the epidemiology, pharmacology and clinical manifestations of Opioid Use Disorder (OUD)
- List and differentiate the pharmacological therapies that are prescribed for OUD
- Describe the common barriers to MAT treatment
- Identify pharmacist?s role in coordinating care
