Description

Should you attend?  This is a knowledge base educational program activity for Pharmacists.

Activity Description: Despite many advances in the understanding, treatment and prevention of HIV, the management of this chronic disease remains complex and continues to evolve. As combination antiretroviral regimens become easier to take by patients, several challenges continue to be present: drug-drug and drug-food interactions, medication errors, polypharmacy, restricted access to agents by third party providers, and many other issues. An opportunity remains for pharmacists to truly impact the care of people living with HIV.

Upon completion of the educational program, pharmacists will be able to:

◦Describe preferred and other commonly used antiretroviral regimens

◦Outline unique characteristics among select antiretrovirals, particularly a comparison between newer and older agents

◦Define new advances in HIV treatment and prevention

◦Identify opportunities to improve adherence, limit potential medication errors and overall patient outcomes
